A tip (or a "toke" as it's called in the casino) should
be reserved for when you want some special attention
or when you wish to appear like a "loose-with-your-money-gambler".
BTW, it's called a TOKE rather than a TIP because tips
are taxable and tokes are a "gift" and not taxed.
So, naturally the dealers prefer to take your generous "gift" and avoid the taxes.
You should never toke a dealer (give your hard-earned
money away to a stranger)unless you desire something
in return.
In the case of black jack, I toke the dealer if I think
I can influence him/her to deal a little deeper into
the deck by doing so - card counters want to see as
many cards dealt as possible! The "count" becomes
more critical as more cards are seen, which is why the casinos never deal down to the bottom of a deck(s) before shuffling - didn't you ever wonder about that?
If I find a willing dealer (one who likes money :-),
I place a bet for the dealer next to my bet - NEVER just GIVE the dealer money! Make him EARN it!
If I have a dbl. down or split I MAY also dbl. his portion.
This depends upon how I'm being treated.
Naturally, if you're betting for the dealer, he will
be pulling for you because he wins if you do. Makes for
a nice relationship.
Craps is an entirely different story - ltr.
