Nortel extends optical supremacy in second quarter

TORONTO, Aug 28 (Reuters) - Nortel Networks (NYSE:NT - news) extended its leading position in sales of lucrative optical transmission products in the second quarter of 2000 at the expense of key competitors Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU - news) and Fujitsu , said Dell'Oro Group on Monday.
Data released by Dell'Oro Group, a Portola Valley, Ca.-based tracker of networking equipment makers, showed Nortel to have a 43 percent share of the global market for optical equipment, compared with Lucent's 15 percent and Fujitsu's 11.1 percent.
In the corresponding quarter of 1999, Nortel's global market share was 28.6 percent, compared with Lucent's 24.1 percent and Fujitsu's 14.2 percent.
Other companies, including Cisco Systems (NasdaqNM:CSCO - news) , CIENA Corp (NasdaqNM:CIEN - news), Alcatel and a handful of others held steady year over year with a market share of 30.9 percent. |
