AMD will announce & ship 1.2 GHZ TBird in 10/'00. Willy will be avail in 11/00 for server/wstn only w/ RDRAM chipset. RDRAM availability will be limited and high-priced. Willy should not affect AMD as AMD is yet to have a meaningful presence in this space. Willy & SDRAM will not make in to performance desk top until 3Q01. Therefore, with 1, 1.1, 1.2 GHz Tbird AMD should have a field day for at least 6 mos. Furthermore, AMD will increase clock speed every 5-6 wks. This means AMD is and will be ahead of INTC in the 1K - 3K desktop for a while.

Socket-A boards are ramping up quickly for TBird and Duron.

With the 1.13 GHz recall, the much-publicized shortage of Xeon 700Mhz parts, INTC will leave quite a bit of money on the table.

Regarding flash, AMD is almost done negotiating long term contract with top-tier customers for '01. AMD's large customers in Europe don't allow AMD to announce these large deals b/c they don't want to lose bargaining power w/ other suppliers in case they need more flashes. Most of AMD flash output goes to LTA. Therefore, pricing is high and firm unlike spot mkt. LTA customers even have to pay penalty if they don't buy as much per contract.

Even the normally pessimistic JJ from SSB (8/28) said: "32 Meg Flash in both AMD and Intel are one of the few densities still in strong demand with a strong market price to support it."
