Jim - RE: "SO essentially, even from a PR standpoint, AMD regains the speed crown. NOW, lets see if the press jumps all over it, giving AMD the speed crown they had all along or they just make trite mention of it and emphasize the 1.5Ghz, yet to be launched, P4... I say they just hype the P4...as the press is always looking for the whiz-bang story..."
There is now even more pressure right now on the P4 release. So much is riding on it it that Intel can't be caught with hyping it and potentially facing any problems. Intel should keep the marketing department away from the P4 and let the engineers do their job. I wonder if some engineer knew the 1.13GHz PIII was screwed from the start, but some marketing manager didn't give a flip because Intel wanted to give the impression they are ahead of AMD.
It is ironic how the current situation looks right now. In February of last year, AMD was hyping the K6-III vs. the PIII like it was the sh*t, but they couldn't produce it worth sh*t. Meanwhile, Intel was consistent and just kept pushing out faster PIIIs because it was no problem for them. And AMD had the Athlon release a few months away. AMD wanted a June release, but they took the safe road and did a August release to the public rather than releasing paper and claiming it was for sale.
Now, the tables have turned. Will Intel play it safe with P4, or is everything 100% PERFECT now for a October launch? |
