Interesting thought... consider how it ended for many Japanese companies...rating agencies already turning up their noses at Deutsche Telekom and mates. Our sales complains from time to time that Telecom papers are hard to sell. ...DTs slump turned Voicestream into a take-under.

VoiceStream, based in Bellevue, Wash., has been seeking to expand its base of U.S. wireless customers. VoiceStream's offer values Powertel shares at about $85, a slight discount over the company's Friday closing price of $86.63.

``VoiceStream is geting a bargain,'' said Jeff Kagan, an independent telecommunications analyst in Atlanta. ``Typically with wireless properties, since there are so few of them left, they're at a real premium.''
