Hi Scumbria; Finally, an explanation for why Rambus didn't collect royalties on SDRAM from 1992 to 2000...
Federal Employee Responsible for Missing Billions At Rambus An almost palpable sigh of relief was felt Monday at Rambus (Nasdaq RMBS) headquarters when the person responsible for the incredibly time consuming patent of SDRAM was finally found. Rambus applied for the patent in 1990, but the it wasn't granted until early 2000. Failing to get the patent completed earlier left Rambus with no choice but to look on while the industry mass produced their invention for 8 years. The culprit? It turns out that their letter to the Patent Office was delayed in the mail - by a postman.
By the time Rambus got the patent situation clarified, several hundred billion dollars worth of SDRAM equipment had already been built and sold - without paying Rambus any royalties. If Rambus had obtained even 1% royalties, their bank account would now be wealthier by well over a billion dollars.
Now that Rambus has found the culprit, long time Washington DC area mail carrier Ima Tsinner, they plan on suing her for the lost funds, approximately $1,600,000,000.00. Tsinner, together with her husband, currently has $1,230.00 in the bank, as well as part ownership in their suburban home. They have not yet planned their legal strategy. ifyouclick
