NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Intel shares were active but steady during
Monday's after-hours session following the company's announcement that
it will recall one of its chips.

Also active in the late session were Optelecom,
CopyTele, PlanetRx and ESoft.

Intel (INTC: news, msgs) shares were flat after
closing up 15/16 to 73 7/8.

Shares hit an intraday 52-week high of 75 13/16,
but were unable to hold those levels after news of
the recall began to circulate.

Intel confirmed Monday that it found a defect in its
Pentium III processor running at 1.13 gigahertz,
which began shipping July 31.

The bug has to do with a circuit in the processor
that will need to be changed. Intel spokesman
Michael Sullivan said the company has shipped a
very small number of the processors, which are in
limited production, and called the problem
"immaterial" to its quarterly revenue numbers.

Sullivan added that it could take a couple of months
to rectify the situation.
