Andre:
I don't know where this stuff comes from, or what morons they have writing it. I've analyzed sales/revenue data from PALM/HAND enough to be reasonably confident that the following numbers are close to reality:
(1) PALM: Q3 (Dec/Jan/Feb) total revenues were $272.3 million, 900,000 units sold. Q4 (March/April/May) total revenues were $350.2 million, 1,100,000 units sold.
(2) HAND: Q3 (Jan/Feb/MArch) total revenues were $34.3 million, 228,000 units sold. Q4 (April/May/June) total revenues were $51.8 million, 345,000 units sold.
Ignoring the one month offset (which probably doesn't distort the results much), these numbers result in Q3 sales of $297 million, Q4 sales $402 million; and Q3 total units 1,128,000, Q4 total units 1,445,000, a 28% increase in units and 35% increase in revenues.
I'll be darned if I know how NPD Group got their 1.3 million units for the first half of 2000, as you point out, PALM alone did 1.1 million in Q4.
As for OneChannel.net, check out their web site FAQ's:

There data is from online e-tailers only as far as I can tell (see Q7). Now what % of PALM's sales are via Egghead and other online retailers I wonder? 5% or so? I wouldn't be surprised if sales via that route were down 45% from Q1 to Q2, since those minor sales channels would be the first to feel the pinch. But why does ZDnet report this meaningless data as representative of the entire sales picture?
Suspicious guy that I am, I smell MSFT FUD at work here..... :):)
