hdl,

i want to buy puts on the nasdaq. how do i do that? what symbols do i use?

You have a couple of choices here, possible others I don't know off hand. You can buy options on the nasdaq 100 tracking stock QQQ. You can also buy options on the nasdaq 100 index NDX. Use an options quote service and put in QQQ for the underlying stock, or the appropriate symbol for the index (unfortuantely this symbol varies from service to service). I'm not sure if you can get options on the Nasdaq composite index COMPX, but I don't seem to be able to raise any quotes from my service.

There are even some mutual funds where you can invest contrary to the Nasdaq. Too late tonight for me to locate them, but Rydex and ProFUNDS are the names I recall.
