can you say A(MCC)^2?

i have yet to tune into the CC to hear the particulars, but this deal is certainly a monster as MMCN is the market pioneer and leading supplier of niche network processors.

as TD alluded to, this acquisition is a clear maneuver to provide AMCC a complete packet classifier-traffic management-switch network processing solution.

previously ...

PMCS partners with Solidum (via QED) for classification, acquires Extreme Packet Devices for traffic management, and Abrizio for its Tiny Tera One (TT1) switch. similarly, VTSS is assembling its three acquisitions: Sitera (classification), Orologic (traffic management) and XaQti (switch fabric).

yet significantly, MMCN gives them customers and design wins right out of the box. (and i'm sure their 35% sequential growth in the most recent quarter wasn't lost on anybody.)

the way these network processing guys are consolidating (note even BRCM devouring Silicon Spice and Newport Comm), i would not be surprised if Solidum was the next take out target (Bailey's no mo' acquisition comments aside). this one could be intriguing, as Solidum not only has a relationship with with PMCS (via QED), but also has an partnership with VTSS to pair its classification technology with VTSS' TeraPower architecture for OC-192 apps. in addition, Solidum apparently has a deal with Sitera (VTSS' latest acquisition) to pair their two network processing offerings: the Solidum chip to perform complex policy identification tasks; Sitera's chip for app processing.

someone pass me a cocktail.
