yardslave,
I am very familiar with 802.11 stuff and was actually looking at 802.11b as a way to provide internet connectivity to my Mom who stays on her boat in a harbor during the summer. Many of the limitations with the shared medium were discussed on Frank Colucci's technology thread within the past couple of months. This is where I got involved with the discussion.

The way that BIFS product is being touted on RB, it sounds like they have found the panacea that solves the distance+bandwidth problem. As you likely know, you can distance with out the bandwidth or bandwidth without the distance, but both together gets into some interesting physics problems.

I am a big proponent of wireless communications, but if BIFS is going to make any money with the product, it isn't going to be by OEMing the product (I have never seen a successful long term OEM agreement that doesn't have a replacement product in sight real soon). And the issues with being a broadband wireless ISP (I coined the term "WISP" on SI last week siliconinvestor.com are much greater than connecting the wireless access point to your switch or router.

Somehow, I wouldn't trust *experts* in biofiltration to deal with the issues of being either reseller of wireless equipment or a wireless ISP.
