Heinz, IMO the only dystopian SF writer that even holds a candle to Philip Dick is J.G. Ballard. Actually, I wouldn't even classify Dick or Ballard as Science Fiction. Ballard is well-known for his novel _Empire of the Sun_, of course, but his best works are his collections of short stories such as _Terminal Beach_, _Vermillion Sands_, and _Low-Flying Aircraft_. And then there is his novel _Crash_, which Daniel Cronenberg made into a movie a few years ago... the book is much better IMO. Ballard is the inventor of cyberpunk, despite what Wired Magazine may say about William Vollman or Neal Stephenson. The difference between them and Ballard is that Ballard is a sentimentalist, and the characters in his novels are people, rather than cardboard action figures.
