I generally read Grant's for its macro views and don't pay a lot of attention to the individual investment calls. This is true of most financial news I read. If they can help me figure out the big picture, I can find the issues to play it with.

However, sometimes what I do is very close. They were recommending some ruble plays a few years back and I bought a Russian CEF and made some good money. The funny thing was that everyone was calling Jim Grant a "permabear" when his long pick was much better than any of the bulls'. But sometimes they only read what they want to read.
