thanks for sharing, and it's always fun to learn that someone is getting good things from this thread. <g3>

in addition to the two reasons you've mentioned for shutting down background apps (games and installs), another use is for defragging.

increasingly, i am seeing articles and techs recommend that all apps (except explorer and systray) be closed prior to running defrag. antivirus software often wreaks havoc with this process because of continuous writes to disk. when last i spoke with a dell tech (just a few days ago), i mentioned this to him and he completely concurred that closing apps is the way to go.

also, occasionally i like to run norton's optimization wizard. the onscreen instructions always call for shutting down all apps.

so enditall is a useful tool for a variety of tasks.
