There is a nice tutorial on smart antenna at iec.org backing up on the same site to iec.org reveals an extensive list of tech communication related tutorials. I don't know whether smart antenna will work equally well all kinds of wireless but my concern was whether it might provide a crutch for extending the lifetime of non CDMA. The time span for development probably would indicate that this is not the case in the Americas but elsewhere could be different.
