OT <<How inexpensive are things that have to be constantly upgraded? I don't have to replace my TV very often>>

That's what I like about this thread--the little epiphanies. In 6 years I've bought 3 computers for a total of $9,000 (including modem upgrades, repairs from the local Rent-a-Nerd, but no implied charge for all the time I spent on hold with Tech Support [there's an oxymoron]). It costs me about $1500 per year to have this rapidly obsolescing hardware and I'm about to take the plunge again and buy another 'puter for another location.

My TV? $400 5 years ago, still as good as ever (57 channels and nuthin' on). Good for another 10, no doubt, at a cost of $40 per year, and then we ship it off with one of the kids.
