What would your reaction have been if all the Fabs had been dark and closed down?,
Now, that would have been very bad indeed. I have large holdings in both Intel and AMD. Luckily, I got into Intel in June 98 very near the bottom. The appreciation in such a short time frame has been way beyond my expectations. However, that means that I don't expect too much further appreciation near term (next 6-12 months) In fact, I'm surprised where it is now. But, it does appear to be somewhat insensitive to current events, so I will continue to hold. Although my AMD position was not established at the low,(I wasn't quite convinced they had a viable chance then) I got in early enough to have profited nicely all ready. But,(like Engel always says) it's that AMD potential that intrigues me. It is that potential that could make me a very rich man. You must realize, that if AMD triples from here, it will likely still have a P/E about 1/2 of Intel by year end. So, a much stronger AMD and a slightly weaker Intel is the delicate balance I am hoping for. We have moved somewhat in that direction but given both Intels and AMDs past, it will take considerably longer (if ever) to get to that (realistic) relative balance that will maximize my holdings. I understand the balance I seek may not be to your liking. If it is ever reached, I will likely sell off everything and exit the market a very happy man. If not - oh well.
