Bill, what would be your thoughts on the NTAP competition in light of This post by Down South (on the NTAP board)? Is it true EMC doesnot centralize data?

Network Appliance and Zack will use the open standards Internet Content Adaptation Protocol(iCAP) to integrate Zack's applications and services with Network Appliance(TM) caching devices. Zack's applications will be stored at the edge of the network, better enabling the delivery of personalized, real-time content and functionality to enterprise environments. Because traffic data is stored and updated on the NetCache(TM) C1100 solution, users can access customized content quickly and reliably.
Very nice! Another link (or two) in the value chain.

BTW, EMC has no such capability. It flies in the face of their strategy to centralize data so that it can be managed. In fact, it is conceivable that in such an implementation as described above, EMC could be at the center of an enterprise, distributing content to the edge where NTAP cache appliances sit. Of course, NTAP could be at the center also, or even distributed to different parts of the enterprise where data is processed then distributed to from filers to the edge-based caches.
