Frank- I should have said the, "The old school of marketecture out of Cisco says...." I've listened to Chambers speak in a derogatory manner about their competitors over the last couple of years in their quarterly CCs. I've even mentioned his comments in a few of my summaries upstream.
He would say something like "Working from an incumbent telecom equipment position into the new converged world of voice/video/data is a position that will not work. But coming from a dominant position in the data world into the new converged network has many advantages, etc., etc..."
But as they now move beyond the enterprise where they truly have simply dominated, and up into the access space(telco and cableco world), your points are very well taken. But do you really hear them coming out and saying, "Long live ATM." If you have any urls of this nature, I would like to read them because that would be an interesting public face of Cisco I might have missed. I really need to follow them more closely and would enjoy reading, and/or listening to, anything of this nature out of Cisco.
On a similar note, they have no circuit-switched voice presence(like TLAB, ADCT, and ANTC), do they? All their HFC voice stuff is IP based, right? Just want to make sure I'm not missing anything because, quite frankly, my position in CSCO is a lot smaller than my position in their competitors within the access space. Cisco always scares me but I can't get over their market cap to take a larger position. Thanks. -MikeM(From Florida) |
