| Yes, I read the link. Saying that lower taxes are better and that government can be run more efficiently is stating the obvious, and the easy to say. The key words are "prudent" and and "responsible". Until you can sell to the public the idea that the federal government should get out of Social Security (people should be responsible for their own retirement), environmental concerns (it's my property, after all), etc., etc., etc., these are costs the government, our government, incurs and must be paid for. Certainly it can done better, but we have what we have. Democracy is the worst form of government ... except for all the others that have been tried (so I've heard). Balancing the books is a fundamentally prudent and responsible need for government, as for any any business or family. Sell the cuts to the public. Make sure you pay for the rest. We've had a multi-trillion party for a while. Time to pay some bills (taxes) while times are good. |
