I can't see any reason for Sun to support this platform.

Sun's ten-year-long dalliance with x86 hardware and software resulted in zero revenue. Whether it was a disaster for the company, merely one of many dry holes that Sun explored during the 90's, or a tactic with some valuable FUD side effects is a question that is open to (uninteresting) debate.

But I think a Sun-built AMD x86-64 box is an intriguing concept. The cannibalization of their own hardware sales is a red herring. The play would be to compete against Intel Linux boxes that threaten them at the low end anyway.

Not likely to happen, I'm free-associating. But it sure would make some headlines.
