Seems pretty clear what is going on with APIs and DOEs this week and last. API missed 3 million barrels last week (showing storage down ~7 million) that the DOE picked up. (Hence they showed a drop of only 4 million). The API picked up the 3 million this week (showing +5 million) but the DOE had already counted them -- hence DOEs came in at +2 mln barrels. This internal consistency is encouraging. Two sources of data make fudging more difficult. But left hanging is the matter of oil on the water -- how much is there. A generous amount didn’t show up this week and the “Bernie”, Greenlaw thesis that more oil is coming remains un-resolved.
