First to Provision Voice over ATM using AB-Access(TM) Data Networking Equipment, Bypasses Telephone Companies' Local Loops Completely
Adaptive Broadband(tm) Corporation ADAP announced today the deployment of a Carrier Class Multipoint Fixed Wireless Network for Cybertech Wireless Inc. that delivers multi-line local and long distance telephone service together with streaming video and high-speed data.
The network uses Adaptive Broadband's AB-Access platform to provide customers bandwidth of up to 25 Mbps and uses Jetstream's Carrier Class CPX-1000 broadband service delivery platform to provide toll quality voice. Serving corporations and small businesses, the network is currently operating in Rochester, NY.
Delivery of Voice, Video and Data Not Dependent on Local Phone Company
In April 2000, Cybertech Wireless contracted with Adaptive Broadband to provide AB-Access to its business-to-business customers, citing the competitive edge AB-Access afforded the Internet Service Provider by allowing it to control the bandwidth by bypassing the local telephone carrier, with its attendant access charges. "The demand for our bundled voice and data services has been tremendous, especially with regards to our ability to turn up service quickly. We are turning up circuits in a matter of days vs. the 120-day quotes our customers have been receiving from the incumbent operator," said William D. Palma, president of Cybertech Wireless Inc.
The AB-Access fixed wireless broadband platform bridges the last mile, replacing the local loop for corporate and small business subscribers. Combining a leading packet-on-demand technology and time division duplexing, it offers data transmission at rates up to 25 Mbps -- providing the capability for voice, real-time video conferencing, transmission of full streaming video, web surfing, and transmission of data files -- all simultaneously and over one connection. "This is a significant step towards proving that Internet Protocol (IP) technology can be carrier class and not just used for best-effort data services," commented John Skoro, Adaptive Broadband's senior vice president of sales and market development. "We've always said that leveraging the cost economies of IP to perform both voice and data services is going to be the leg-up that operators like Cybertech will need to compete effectively. Today, that leg up has materialized," continued Skoro.
Voice Services Platform Certified Interoperable with all Major Class 5 Switches
The Jetstream CPX-1000 is a large-scale voice services platform that lets carriers deliver multi-line local telephone service over Wireless Local Loop (WLL) broadband access networks. Certified interoperable with all major Class 5 switches including the Lucent 5ESS, Nortel Networks DMS-100 and DMS-500 and Siemens EWSD, the CPX-1000 connects to the switch via industry-standard GR-303 interfaces, assuring complete feature and operational transparency. The network has passed Telecordia Technologies standards that qualify it for toll quality voice. IEEE and TR57 tests show the quality of wireless communications is equal to if not better then that of a normal copper wire line currently offered by Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers (ILECs).
Delivers True Circuit-switched-quality Telephone Service Over Broadband
Local telephone service through the CPX-1000 is comparable in quality and features to conventional wireline service. Subscribers do not discern a difference in voice quality and can continue to receive the reliability and calling features they have come to expect. They can also continue to use all their existing telephone equipment, including key telephone systems, fax machines, analog telephones and modems. A CPX-1000 can support as few as 200 subscriber telephone lines for cost-effective market entry, and efficiently scale to support hundreds of thousands of phone lines.
