Copper for December delivery (HGZ0 <Cmdty>) rose as much as
0.85 cent, or 1 percent, to 89.8 cents a pound on the Comex
division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, the highest price
since November 1997. Copper supplies in London Metal Exchange-
monitored warehouses dropped another 3,475 metric tons today to
449,325 tons, the exchange said in its daily warehouse report, the
lowest level since October 1998. Stockpiles have been cut almost
in half from a record high in March, reflecting a resurgence in
global demand from wire and pipe makers that's helped boost prices
20 percent from an eight-month low in April. (For news: NI
