Computer stocks on the decline

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) - Personal computer stocks wilted in the heat of summer Wednesday, as shares of IBM fell for the first time in seven sessions.



The Goldman Sachs Computer Hardware Index ($GHA: news, msgs) couldn't find cover, as it fell 0.8 percent, held down by falling shares of Dell Computer (DELL: news, msgs) and Compaq Computer (CPQ: news, msgs).

IBM (IBM: news, msgs) lost its upward momentum, declining $2.88 to $130.

Quantum's hard disk drive unit (HDD: news, msgs), though, bucked the trend and gained 13 cents to $9.13, as did Iomega (IOM: news, msgs), whose shares added 44 cents to $4.
