I agree with you in part. People here as permanent residents are trying us on for size. They are not usually loyal to American ideals, they are typically here only because of the current economic opertunities.

In the case of H-1 visas; people are not here because of any interest in US culture or politics. They are here to meet a temporary labor shortage ussually in the high tech arena and are well compensated for doing so. They work on contract with the full intention of transfering as much American wealth off shore as possible. In fact, a great deal of the American industry is now for sale over seas and is rapidly being transfered out. Granted a small percentage may be seriously interested in the politics that would be beneficial for America and Americans. The vast majority, however, would influence politics in favor of their home countries if they could...as any sensible person would.
