I'm not sure that Briefing.com article is 100% correct. I believe management indicated that the AXNT deal would be somewhat dilutive until the end of CY 2001, when it will become accretive. IMO, that is what is pressuring the stock, along with the usual arbitrage action with the buyer being shorted. Still long SYMC, however, and just bought some more. We may see continued pressure, or at least lack of movement, until the deal is closed, which should happen (hopefully) this CY. People just don't seem to realize the long-term potential in this space. Once viruses start attacking PDAs and cell phones (the former of which happened this week for the first time), everyone will need virus protection, which will be supplied wirelessly. That's a 30%+ net margin business in my book. Combine that with JThompson's relentless push into the lucrative and stable corporate security market, and you have a solid long term investment IMO. Most importantly, SYMC appears to be trouncing its competitors based upon the market share numbers released with last Q's earnings. I'm holding long. Everything else is short-term noise.
