VERT longs, probably the most important piece of news that you will here.
1) From chief executive of No. 1 computer-chipmaker Intel Corp. 2) Demand / Supply imbalance will not subside until 12 to 18 months 3) Therefore you can count on very strong revenues from NECX.com well into 2001 4) All that NECX revenue will help fund other growth areas within the company 5) By the time the cycle starts to turn down, VERT will be profitable
Intel's Barrett on Semiconductor Supply: Comment
Sao Paulo, Aug. 30 (Bloomberg) -- Craig Barrett, chief executive of No. 1 computer-chipmaker Intel Corp., comments on demand for chips:
``I think the entire industry underinvested in manufacturing capacity in the 1998-1999 time frame and when we left 1999 there was obviously an increase in demand from the two main areas that drive demand: computers and mobile communications. So through much of this year there's been a shortage of capacity, there's been more demand than availability and there's still a shortage of capacity in some areas.''
``So I think you're going to see spot shortages probably for the next six to 12 months in some areas, but some of the commodity products may be in better supply and demand balance. We're still experiencing very strong demand for our microprocessors, for our flash memories, but I think in some areas, like d-rams perhaps there's a slightly better balance.''
``But overall, I think the industry is adding capacity and probably in 12-18 months there will be a better balance." |
