Triumph Communications to Provide New Backhaul Services For DIRECTV(R) Local Channel Delivery
NEW YORK, Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Triumph Communications(SM), a major provider of private digital fiber video networks, announced today that it has been awarded a contract to provide additional video backhaul services for delivery of local television broadcast channels to DIRECTV, Inc., the nation's leading provider of digital television entertainment. Triumph Communications is wholly-owned by Liberty Livewire Corporation (Nasdaq: LWIRA - news).
Triumph currently uses its fiber network to deliver 68 local broadcast television stations from 17 select markets across the country where DIRECTV is currently offering local channel services. As a result of this new contract, Triumph will provide DIRECTV with fiber delivery to an additional 36 local broadcast television stations from 9 new markets. The addition of these new channels will expand the private fiber-optic video network that Triumph has designed and implemented for DIRECTV to over 22,000 miles.
Operationally, Triumph will hub together each of the local television stations with which DIRECTV has retransmission agreements. Triumph will then encode and transmit the signals on the Triumph Network, which will be delivered real-time to the DIRECTV® Los Angeles Broadcast Center.
In addition to fiber delivery, Triumph will continue to provide DIRECTV with quality video service. Triumph currently monitors all the local channels it delivers to DIRECTV from its 24/7/365 Video Service Center (VSC). Triumph's VSC is located in New York City and is responsible for the monitoring and troubleshooting of the local channel signals it delivers to DIRECTV.
