I think the most telling scene from the PBS show The Fall of Newt Gingrich was when he left his office after the first day of work for Bork. He still expected to be driven, but instead of the huge black sedans or SUVs he had been chauferred in, he was put in the back of a silver 4-door and the driver had to guide his head through the small door so he wouldn't bump it (just like you see the police do with suspects they are putting in their cruiser). His ego was still large, but the rest of his world had shrunk.
