An expert said he was seeing serious viruses affecting devices like Palm in the next three to six months

Morons!

Gosh, you turn a stone and an expert crawls out from underneath. What makes this guy an expert to say this? Is he the same expert that predicted that MS WinCE would be at 50% (or so) market share by 2001, back in '98-99?

Is this "expert" still saying that?

This trojan horse does not "infect" a device. To "infect" a device, a program must have come into the device by attaching itself to some other program/mail etc. and must get to execute without the express knowledge or instruction of the user. Additionally, a virus would have a means to propogate by "attaching" itself to other programs (that would then be shared with others) and thus "infecting" their devices too.

This torjan horse, is basically a deceivingly named program that deletes your data. You have to consciously download it, and execute it. If you then delete it, it does not linger around in a "boot sector" or something, ready to run the next time you reset the handheld.

Viruse's may well turn out to be a problem in the distant future, but I think that one can architect a device and os to protect against them.

Additionally I sure don't think that they are "going to be a big problem in the next 3 to 6 months".

But then what do I know. I am no expert. This is all JMHO.
