OT: to JDN,

If you think house prices are/were high in GP then you should take a look in Ashland. Real Estate prices jumped 25% from January to May alone. The town has gone from old Volvos and VW vans to Range Rovers and Jaguars. Decent homes are being scraped to build mansions that fill the lots.

Taxes: as a Floridian our taxes would be shocking and one reason my wife, an accountant, always talks about moving to FL. Of course, there is no sales tax but as a result we collect nothing from all our visitors. They keep trying to entice us to pass a sales tax but everyone sees the inevitable, we would have a sales tax and high income taxes.
I wouldn't consider living anywhere else in Oregon besides Ashland. As JC says, I am close to the exit being only 10 miles from the CA border, however there is a 5000'+ pass in between.

Apolgies to all the Sunnies for OT post.
