Peackeeping is not combat duty. Peacekeepers rarely fire a shot, or have one fired at them, because the typical situation is to have a negotiated truce and bring in the UN troops to police compliance. Nationals from smaller countries tend to do it because it is an easy job, and they are useless for harder missions. Meanwhile, Americans are sent into real hotspots like Somalia or Bosnia. Your point is misplaced. Americans (and their NATO allies, at times) go in when real fighting is required or may break out......
