If the US withdrew tomorrow the UN would collapse Maybe it would. But it will not be good for the world as we know of it and certainly not for the US. There is a reason why US has to make commitments towards UN. Remember most of the time US initiates action (eg. Iraq) and rallies UN behind it, most of the times justified IMO. I just wanted to drive the point that UN does not deserve to be the punching bag that some republicans make it to be. This will likely be my last post on UN, wan't to talk more about Dubya.
