Yeah, Apollo you are a good case in point. Only DSL would cause you to leave AOL.

As for a portal, why would you need one? This is an important distinction. When I surf and get my email I do it raw and have no problem doing it. I PREFER using search engines to find autonomous sites for information. I have three email accounts including a Hotmail account. I use Macster, Napster and Hotline. I have a freeware FTP clients on both my Macs and both my PCs and have no problem using them.

All of this blinds me to how non tech users use the internet.

Since you started with a company like AOL, I think you probably feel kind of naked without the portal thing. Can you explain more fully why you need a portal?

DSL will probably hurt AOL, on the other hand they are still getting "late starting technophobes" to try their service and therefor get hooked on it.
