The SEC is proposing new rules that it says are needed to keep accounting firms from getting too close to their audit clients. The SEC fears that if an accounting firm is auditng a company and also doing lots of consulting work for the client, the auditor might be less inclined to ask tough questions that would uncover problems with their books. The accounting firms strongly disagree and are fighting the proposal.

Have you seen any discussion of this topic on msg boards. Do you think this is something that individual investors care about?
