Petz,<..plug on its 1.13GHz Pentium III, which is currently at stepping cC0.>

When shopping for few good P-III, I accidentally
ran into the following page:
support.intel.com

Upon closer look, I found some amazing details.
I assume that the table lists parts that are commonly
available, not some cherry-picked rare samples
that were allocated to Dell and long gone.
When looking at cA2 stepping, it becomes painfully
clear that the spectrum of cA2 sorted dies is
from 500E to maximum 750. I think those are the bulk
of 1-million-per-week Cumines as Elmer was feeding us
for a while.

Now, the stepping cB0 just started to show up in the
mass channel - only two-three merchants ever
mention the "stepping" of processors, see
Pricewatch. The Intel's table is remarkable in the
sense that while the cB0 tops at 1G, the low tail
is still at 500! So I wonder where the center is....
looks like again at 750MHz, right?

Now the cC0 is looking like a joke since their
product change notification #988 (and alike) tells
OEMs that C-0 parts will arrive in mid-August.

<OEMs close to Intel's plans are reporting that its 1GHz Pentium III flip chip microprocessor is suffering from big heat problems>
This must be because the P-III uses only half of Athlon
power, as Paul reminds us on every occasion, right?

Regards,
- Ali
