If mold caused or was a factor in her death, the spores and mold may still be present at her former home.
Depending if any renovating work that may have been done and if the people who own the place would let investigators back in, they could do tests for mold, or spores, in the air, on surfaces in the house, or drill holes in the walls, use scopes and see if there is still mold present, and test it.
To find out what kind of mold, a sample would have to be grown in a petri dish, or others can be identified under microscope. It could have been pathogenic mold or toxic mold, or maybe it was not toxic or pathogenic at all, but just a plain old allergenic mold. There are so many types of molds, it boggles the mind.
If her immune system was worn down due to other health problems or due to certain molds itself, or due to the fact she was a smoker, this could have been a reason.
I think it's worth further investigation, since a death was involved.
I think the CDC should be handling an investigation like this.
