Tivo just hit my price point ($99 after rebates for 14 hr. model at Circuit City) so I decided to kick the tires a bit to try to determine for myself whether the PVR market may have legs. Phillips and Tivo are each throwing in $100 rebates, presumably to clear the shelves of the older 14 hr. model. Think the magical $99 price point may be cheap enough to really jump start demand beyond the early adopters.

I'm pretty amazed that this $99 impulse buy has an even bigger HD than my latest PC, which I just bought in January.
Not a big TV fan myself, but if it's true that the average American watches the tube 4 to 6 hrs. a day; is working 10 hrs. a day due to the strong economy; and still can't figure out how to reset the clock in his VCR, which is used almost exclusively for playing rented movies -- then the PVR market may have some real traction at this price point, if it lasts.

Would be curious to know whether anyone else here owns a ReplayTV or Tivo device and what they think of it.

Took minuscule opening positions in TIVO and RDRT today, and somewhat larger, but still modest opening position in HDD.

Am new to this sector and thread. Glad to see it is relatively quiet and in such capable hands.
