Hantong Makes Inroad Into Chinese Mobile Phone Market

Hantong Multimedia Inc. yesterday signed an agreement with two Chinese telecom companies on exporting a total of 10 million of CDMA mobile phones in Tianjin, China.

Hantong founded a branch company of Hantong Multimedia Tianjin Co. on Aug.1 and was designated as a local venture.

Lee Jae-wook, 42, president of Hantong Multimedia said, ``Hantong was chosen as seventh undertaker of mobile phone enterprise in China. We will export 5 million of CDMA mobile phones to Seki Mobile Telecom Inc. and both 2.50 million of CDMA and GSM mobile phones to National Electric Inc. respectively through our branch there.''

``Hantong, first of all, reached an agreement on exporting 120,000 phones as a first step,'' one official said.

``This is such an overwhelming amount of materials to approximately come up to 100 billion won per year and Hantong's move in China is considered as a full-fledged advance of Korean CDMA mobile phone into Chinese telecom market,'' he went on to say.

Hantong Multimedia Inc. launched the business in 1999 and began to get popularity with so-called ``smile phone'' in the domestic market. Hantong has been progressing the same service activities in China..
