I went to that thread and found no posts since July. Any particular reason why?

There are many, many threads on SI that focus on stock picking... which invariably contain a huge amount of worthless hype as well. As a result, we try to maintain this thread as a hype-free and stock pick-free thread. As you noted, we do have an associated stock picking thread, but it finds little interest due to the vast number of other similar threads available.
