You may impress race going friends by recalling that the winner of the 1895 Derby ,that famed british summer event,was a horse named Sir Visto. But imagine their reaction if you could go to the vidiotape.
For such a bit of cinematic one-upmanship, the place to be is Sotheby`s in london on sept 21, when 43 seconds of the race- the earlist surviving British film-goes under the hammer.
The footage was shot by American-born Birt Acres.
