the sheriff has asked for FBI assistance Hmmmm....I wonder who called who. Most local sheriffs don't want the intrusion (I assume). It might be SOP that when there is a "militia" or "secessionist" connection to a guy who is holed up, they come in automatically. Yah, they'll need to gin up a drug connection in order to bring in military hardware, but they may not need to. Remember Gordon Kahl? They burned him out without the assistance of flame throwing tanks. The NPR story spoke of dug out sandbagged areas that they made to hide behind while shooting, so "compound" has already been intimated.
