County sheriffs are mostly "good ol' boys," because that's what it takes to get elected in a small Texas county. They don't want to do things that are too controversial, especially in cases where they might agree with the person on the other side of the law. They often walk a line that's on the edge of dereliction of duty -- harmony and getting along are the keywords. They sure don't like the FBI coming in and taking over, but compared to the option of taking a hard stand against one of their own, well ...

I see that Drudge has taken the link to this story off his website. I suspect that when we next hear anything, it will be at the climax of the incident. The "grand Finale'" so to speak, with the LEOs being the heroes of the story.
