OLDTRADER,<<<PC's are like the telephone was in the teens (1913-1919) -they are all improved versions now but still telephones->>>
IMO, that is where most people make their mistake. You can't really compare PC's to single function desices like telephones, VCR's, fax machines, microwave ovens, televisions, and the hoola hoop.
The telephone is functioning today pretty much like the telephone functioned in the period you are refering to (1913-1919). Of course, it performs that function much better today and there are a lot of extra features.
But, I guarantee (although I wouldn't be here to collect on my bet) the PC 80 years from now is not going to resemble anything like what you and I know a PC to be today.
The PC performs a lot of different functions - and no doubt, functions that we can't imagine we could live without today.
So, instead of buying and maintaining hundreds of devices, everything can be handled by the PC.
The PC era is still in its infancy. You ain't seen nothing yet.
