Rob, <It is a dumb machine.> Intel spent a considerable amount of time debunking that myth last year at Microprocessor Forum. If you haven't seen that presentation, or you haven't read the MPR article on Itanium (10/6/99), you won't know that Intel has been preaching "the right level of smarts" instead of "dumb machine" principles. --- One other thing that more than drives a stake in the ground... Compaq released their whitepaper "Alpha and IA64" 5 days after MPR forum in 1999. They are more than standing by their stance that it is a "dumb machine". Show us the equivalent paper to "Alpha and IA64". You can't because no such whitepaper exists. The Emperor has no clothes ;-0 Rob
