By the way, using generous definitions, Microsoft Office probably generates more XML apps revenue than everything else combined.

I think front-end XML will get more interesting as the browsers come up to speed. Microsoft has some XML capabilities in IE, but Netscape really doesn't yet. So there is little reason to deliver XML to the desktop except in controlled environments. I think that when XML really gets in the news, then there will be a land grab for XML talent so a lot of the smaller firms will be acquired just like ASPs and dotcom consultants were.
