There has been some interesting speculation about why I stopped posting after summarizing WIND’s Analyst Day in June. Recently the speculation has become downright Machiavellian with at least one suggestion that I was spoon fed the Sony question on the CC.

I felt constrained not to post until after the CC because it would have been impossible for me not to violate principles I laid out when I returned to the thread last winter. You should know I made certain of my feelings known concretely to management. Both before and after I vented my suggestions, I felt it proper not to discuss them publicly on the thread. Yet to continue posting ordinary company observations without fully disclosing my views about issues that mattered so much to me at the time, would have been awkward for me at best, and deceitful at worst. I can post now because the issues at hand evaporated at the CC.

During the CC, I punched number 1 on the telephone early on because I wanted more color on the strength of WIND’s budding relationship with Sony, and in particular what happened with Aperios. Aperios is not just another in-house OS; it was the result of years of development by Sony’s most visionary and capable research group, purposely modeled in the 1980’s after Xerox’s Research PARC. I wanted highlighted whatever story lies behind the story.

No, I wasn’t fed the question. In fact, I asked it poorly because after I punched number one, but before I was acknowledged, Jerry voluntarily mentioned Aperios. Obviously Jerry was thinking along the same lines as I was. With only one question left, I didn’t think there was a chance the operator would call on me, so I was caught off guard when my name was called.

Sometimes it is difficult to post. Sorry.

Allen
