NEW YORK -- Lexar Media Inc. (LEXR) may have violated securities laws when its chief executive made statements to the media in interviews on the morning of its initial public offering Tuesday, the company said in a filing Friday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Reimer also said Lexar's technology allows users to take pictures "faster than most of our competitors." Because Lexar has had to redesign its products after losing a patent-infringement judgment to competitor SanDisk Corp. (SNDK), the company said it can't be sure that the redesigned products have the same speed advantage as its previous equipment.

Lexar said in its prospectus that Reimer's statements were "casual comments" that investors shouldn't use to make investment decisions.
