Racoons....name comes from the Algonquian...Something to the effect...' arahkunem.'..means "The washer"...or "he who scratches with his hands"...from observing them hunt in stream beds...they feel about with their hands looking for tasty morsels......One needs to exercise some measure of caution around these guys...there is a cycle of rabies that runs through the population every few years...you can catch it through contact with the saliva...no bites necessary..........nasty disease That
